New Worker Letter - 01/03/2014
(This letter was published in the New Worker Newspaper of the New Communist Party (NCP) dated the 7.3.2014 - Page 8)
Dear New Worker Newspaper
The Buddhist – Marxism Alliance (UK) fully supports the New Worker and the New Communist Party of Britain (NCP). As a progressive political entity the BMA (UK) encourages the advanced political analysis of historical and current events through the rubric of the Marxist theory of historical (and dialectical) materialism. The BMA (UK) is associated, through its membership, with the Communist Party of China. In the 1953 the Communist Party of China founded the Buddhist Association China [BAC] (中國佛教協會 - Zhōngguó Fójiào Xiéhuì), which was guided in its first meeting by the venerable Buddhist monk Xu Yun (1840-1959). Today, the law in China is that all religions and spiritual paths must assist in the building of Socialism in China. The BAC states in its Guiding Principles:
‘The BAC is a patriotic association and an educational administrative organization, which unites all the Buddhist practicing nationalities in China. Its objective is to assist the People’s Government by implementing and protecting freedom of religion, whilst safeguarding the legal rights and interests of the Buddhist community. The BAC maintains Buddhism as an honourable religion, supports the establishment of Buddhist enterprises, and perpetuates the excellent Buddhist tradition. Buddhism is encouraged to be patriotic to the flag, keep its teachings relevant and up to date with the progress of the world, and become self-sufficient and strong; whilst striving to unite the ethnic groups of China, as well as working toward the building of a Socialist State and the reunification of China.’
The BMA (UK) acknowledges the modern Chinese output regarding the progression and development of Marxist thinking. Interested readers are encouraged to access English translations of important Chinese Marxist texts through CANut International Publishers (UK and Germany), particularly the following works amongst others:
Defense of Marx – by Yang Geng
The New Stage of Capitalism – A Marxist Update on its Evolution: by Zhang Tongyu, Ding Weimin, and Chen Ying
A Deep Plough: Unscrambling Major Post-Marxist Texts from Adorno to Zizek: by Zhang Yibing
On Mao’s Political Ideology: Reviewing Chinese and Global Studies 1940-2007: Yang Fengcheng
With regard to Tibetan Buddhism, the BMA (UK) supports all ethnic groups and acknowledges that equality is the foundation of the modern Chinese State. Tibetan Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism are equal expressions of pre-Marxiam thinking. The BMA (UK) acknowledges that the United States of America has interfered historically in the internal issues of China, and has, through its Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), pursued a highly destructive and undeclared war on the people of China, and the Tibetan region. This violent policy (in pursuit of bourgeois capitalist aims) has included the manipulation of the Dalai Lama – a declared ‘Marxist’ – who has nevertheless been invited into the highest offices of American governance over the years, including private meetings with the President. Why would a Christian, naturally rightwing, liberal democratic, capitalist State invite a non-Christian, non-capitalist, Buddhist monk into their political inner sanctum, if there were not ulterior motives? The USA – a country founded upon the principles of terrorism, genocide, and Christianity - pursues a ruthless and vicious, undeclared imperialist war around the globe, securing free-markets for their forcibly exported goods by destroying indigenous culture, which the USA perceives as standing in the way of progress.
Buddhists and Marxists must look beyond the surface events and the media manipulation of information. Buddhist analysis of subjective psychology and the experience of external stimuli is a natural accompaniment to the use of Marxist dialectical materialism. In this way the exploitative nature of conditioned history as it unfolds can be clearly perceived for exactly what it is. Perceiving the truth of reality ushers ever nearer the final and complete worldwide Communist Revolution.
Comradely Greetings

Letter to the Morning Star - 13/08/2013
Dear Comrades at the Morning Star
The ethnic violence over much of Southeast and Southern Asia in the last year is very worrying. It has erupted in the usually peaceful –although generally very poor – countries whose population is generally considered to be majority Buddhist. In today’s Morning Star there is an article typical of the paper’s coverage of this issue on page 6 of the World News – entitled ‘Mosque Closed after Buddhist Mob Attack’ – concerning ethnic violence between Buddhists and Muslims in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The reporting in this article, and all similar articles in the Morning Star, is deliberately biased against Buddhists and purposefully presents the Muslim religion as being the passive recipient of unjust violence. Although it is true that there has undoubtedly been an upsurge of Buddhist inspired violence against Islamic communities in these poverty stricken countries, it is also true that not all the violence has been unprovoked, and that certain Islamic communities have used violence toward non-Muslims. When unprovoked Muslim ethnic violence occurs towards Buddhists – the Morning Star either remains silent, or reports the story so as to suggest Buddhists started the violence.
It is obvious to the Buddhist – Marxism Alliance (UK) that the Communist Party of Britain, and its newspaper – the Morning Star – is deliberately pursuing an anti-Buddhist – pro-Islamic political agenda, and in the process potentially alienating millions of Buddhists who are otherwise politically leftwing and influenced by the philosophy of Karl Marx. Out of all the religions in the world it is the godless philosophy of Buddhism that is closest to Marxism, and as many Asian Buddhists live in abject poverty, the religion that is nearest to delivering a Communist Revolution. The BMA (UK) implores its comrades at the Communist Party of Britain, and the Morning Star, to abandon the Eurocentric attacks on the Buddhist religion, and to adopt a more balanced approach to its reporting. The BMA (UK) thoroughly condemns any ethnic violence, regardless of which groups are involved, and does not support the leftwing media playing one religion off against another. Buddhists and Communists should work together with Muslims, and create the conditions for the next stage in human evolution –namely World Communism.
With Comradely Best Wishes
